There is not a day that goes by where I don’t hear from a woman who says she is afraid to lift weights because she doesn’t want to look like this:
Well I’m happy to tell you are missing a major component called testosterone. I won’t go into detail, but the reason most women look like the one pictured here is because they are taking drugs that increase their overall testosterone which in turns gives you bigger muscles. Normally, women only have about one-tenth the amount of testosterone the average man has. So you would need to spend all day, every day pumping iron to start to see noticeable increase in muscle mass.
But there are some benefits for anyone who lifts weights:
1.You will burn more calories outside the gym after training. When you weight train you build lean muscle mass, which speeds up your resting metabolism and burns more fat throughout the course of the day.
2.You will help strengthen your joints and ligaments. We have all heard that squatting is bad for your knees. Well, that couldn’t be further from the truth. By doing full depth squats you build the muscles of the lower body and core which, in turn, makes your body stronger and less prone to injury.
3.It goes a long way in increasing your confidence both in and out of the gym. . In general, lifting weights helps you sculpt a sexier and stronger physique. In the famous words of Sir Mix A lot “I’m tired of magazines saying flat butts are the thing”
4.And, it is great for your mental health and stress relief. There have been numerous studies that have shown how lifting and exercise helps you deal with anxiety and depression by building greater self-esteem and lowering stress.
There you have it. Proof, once and for all, that YOU can drop this notion that lifting is going to make you look like a man! So – get in the weight room and start moving some weight.
